How do our feet age? So much is said about the rest of our bodies. As we grow older, we expect to see our bodies become different, for things to change shape and rearrange, and our society makes a lot of fuss about how to prevent these natural signs of aging. But what about our feet? What does a lifetime of running, and particularly barefoot or minimalist running, do to them?
Barefoot-running.us published a particularly thoughtful essay on the subject, simply called Aging Bare Feet. A line that really stuck with me was actually the final one: “It’s worth being careful to keep this gift of movement.” The author provides examples of how she has changed her running style over her lifetime, and it’s interesting to read this piece from someone who has been going unshod for decades. Head on over to their site to read the piece in it’s entirety.
