Footwear giant Nike has revealed plans to reach 100% of footwear production of its (”baseline”) Considered standards by 2011, all apparel by 2015, and equipment by 2020. You can download these ’standards’ that Nike has set for itself here.
On October 28th, 2009, Nike President and CEO, Mark Parker, started the keynote address by stating the overview of Nike Considered Design and its expansive goal. “it’s not enough to be solving the challenges of today,” stated Parker, “we are designing for the sustainable economy of tomorrow, and for us that means using fewer resources, more sustainable materials and renewable energy to produce new products.”
Nike, imho, has the responsibility to continually search and implement clean & green business practices. I applaud Nike in setting goals that include reduction of product packaging by 30%, using water-based adhesives to prevent toxic emission as well as waterless dye. The question is which ‘green’ Nike is going after? Paper $ green or true social and environmental change?
Let’s wait and see…

I’m an eagle scout and a couple of years I did a project where I collected old shoes for the NIke Re-Use a shoe program, we collected around 150 pairs only but it sparked a great deal of interest in my neighborhood.
nike needs more green programs!
